“Self-liberation in Motion” is a womenswear collection
by fashion designer Nozomi Yamanami that explores body
dynamics, movement, and silhouette while playfully challenging
the constraints of Japanese office culture. Drawing inspiration
from the chaos of a typical Monday morning, the collection uses
improvisation, imperfection, and motion as core design tools.
Through deconstructed silhouettes and fluid forms, it expresses
quiet resistance and a search for freedom through clothing.
Embracing fleeting moments and prioritizing process over perfection,
the collection reimagines the everyday as a site of soft rebellion.

The design of this publication intentionally mirrors the ethos
of the collection it documents. Opting for a “coverless” format,
the book is wrapped in 110gsm tracing paper—a translucent veil
that shifts with light and movement, echoing the themes of fluidity
and impermanence. Printed in A4, the same size as standard office
paper, the format subtly critiques and recontextualizes the rigidity
of corporate culture. This juxtaposition of the ordinary and the
ethereal grounds the work in everyday experience while
simultaneously disrupting it—offering a quiet but deliberate
gesture of rebellion, aligned with the collection’s exploration
of female self-liberation.

In collaboration with Nozomi,  I participate as the creative direction of the book cover, print and binding execution,  alongside appendix design. This experience allows me to manage tight timelines and coordinate with printers under production constraints. I learned to translate abstract ideas into tangible form through material choices, and how physical design can enhance narrative. It also strengthened my skills in creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
